Putting the Disco in Discomfort

The amount of (love, money, blessings) you can receive is directly correlated to the amount of discomfort (waiting, conflict, emotional mess, etc.) you can tolerate.

Tom Petty once crooned that the waiting is the hardest part and I, for one, have never disagreed with that man.

Waiting = discomfort and discomfort is something most people hope to get rid of immediately.

Discomfort also looks like:

- taking the train or a drive with nothing to listen to.

- a bank account that sits just a liiiiittle too low for your blood.

- saying no to a free meal you don't want.

Navigating the unknown can be excruciating! But there is an anecdote: trust.

Lately I've realized that I'm more comfortable dreaming about a different life than the one I have. Growing up, I felt so unsafe (mentally and emotionally) in my environment, I got used to throwing my consciousness outside of the present moment in order to feel better. So now my work is about tolerating discomfort by NOT mentally escaping to fantasy land but staying regulated and trusting in the space between things I ask for and things I receive, while being present for the blessings I already have.

Trust looks like knowing the inspired thought will come if there are no inputs to cloud your attention.

Trust looks like relaxing because you know the money is coming.

Trust looks like discernment as you wait for the right thing.

Lately I've realized that I'm more comfortable dreaming about a different life than the one I have. Growing up I felt so uncomfortable (unsafe mentally and emotionally) in my environment, I got used to throwing my consciousness outside of the present moment in order to alleviate the pain. So now my work is about tolerating discomfort by NOT mentally escaping to fantasy land but staying present and regulated in the space between the things I ask for and the things I receive.

Hence the original mantra: the amount of blessings you can receive is directly correlated to the amount of discomfort you can tolerate.

Can you relate?
